Oetz (Otz) is famous holiday resort in Austria, especially during the winter and the village has over a century long tradition in tourism. The resort provides with good range of events and activities attracting visitors from different age groups. Some of the tourist activities here include guided tours, various activity programs, family hikes, skiing and snowboarding, rafting, different music performances and events. Grünberg Mountain is attracting a lot of visitors with its beautiful nature in both summer and winter. Great walking tours are available among the snowy woods and the Oetz area includes forty kilometers of winter hiking paths. Sledding, cross-country skiing, horse drawn sleigh, alpine curling etc. activities are available for the resort’s guests. Ski chalets, private accommodation and great hotels and restaurants will cater all needs of Oetz’s visitors.
Oetz Accommodation
The ski resort Oetz is situated at the beginning of the Otztal valley, 30 kilometers away from Solden, a ski paradise with 150 courses. As you will probably want to visit both those resorts, we recommend you the Super Ski Pass that is available on a large number of courses.
In Oetz, you will find 34 kilometers of courses, between 1500 and 2200 meters altitude, which are great for snowboarding and skiing. Because of the snowpark, situated in the southern side of the resort, you can enjoy a large number of winter sports.
The gondola reaches 2200 meters altitude, and from there, you can race with other skiers, displaying your courage and skills. If you are looking for a panoramic course, you can go on the Course nr. 4 or 9. The children are waited at the ski kindergartens, but also at the three ski schools that are opened in Oetz.
Of course, after a long skiing day, you will also want to try the sledges, skating, or even curling. The resort is also great for people that are only looking for a place to relax, even if they are not the fan of winter sports. The courses are designed for different types of skiers, with different types of difficulty, and the hiking courses last from 50 minutes to 5 hours or more. However, before leaving for such a trip, you should check the possibility of avalanches.
If you are looking for a special ride, you can spend the night in the igloo village, situated at 2000 meters altitude. Here, you can enjoy the snow, ice, candles, and of course, sauna.
Once the courses are closed for the night, you can choose one of the numerous mountain restaurants, with a great view to the Otztal Valley. Anyway, no matter what kind of winter vacation you are looking for, Oetz is the place for you.
Oetz Skiing Holidays
The ski pistes of Grunberg Mount its altitude of 1500 m. are perfect for family skiing holidays and there are runs for all ability levels. Ötztal skiing area is pretty variable and there are two glaciers for snow sports. There is also some great off-piste skiing and snowboarding available for the experts. Snowboarding is very popular in the Oetztal and boarders and free-riders will be able to enjoy most modern facilities - halfpipes, boarder-cross, quarter-pipe jumps, rails, half-diamonds, and many more. Oetz has two very good ski schools - the Skischule Oetz-Hochoetz and the Ski and Snowboardschule Mali. Since Otz is mainly a family ski resort.
Naturschutzgebiet Piburger See
The Piburger See lake is situated in a nature reserve at 913 meters elevation, above the village of Oetz. It is one of the warm lakes in Tyrol (24° Celsium) and is very popular for romantic walks, swimming and fishing. There are also boat facilities, buffet, restaurant.
Oetz Transportation
The nearest airports are these in Innsbruck (~60km), Munich (~165km) and Zurich (~240km) By train one can get to Ötztal Bahnhof train station, which is five kilometers away from the resort of Oetz, but there is a regular bus running to Ötz.
By car one can get to the resort:
From Germany: A7 to Kempten - Fussen - Fernpass – Imst, then via A12 or B171 exit Ötztal - B186 to Otz; or via A8 to Munich - Rosenheim - A12 to Kufstein - exit Otztal, then on B186 to Öetz.
From France and Switzerland: Zurich - Sankt Gallen - Bregenz - Feldkirch - St Anton then via A12 or B171 to Ötztal and via B186 to Oetz.
From Italy: via Brenner pass to Innsbruck via A12 to Ötztal - B186 Otz.
