Innsbruck

The capital of Tyrol, Innsbruck is located in the western part of Austria at 573 meters elevation, 489 kilometers south-west of Vienna, 190 kilometers away from Salzburg and is one of Europe's most beautiful cities. Innsbruck has long been a centre of commerce and important traffic junction, as it lies at the crossroad of two important routes across the central Alps. In the eastern Alps, Innsbruck is about half an hour from the Italian border and forty-five minutes from the German border.

The beauty of Innsbruck city is protected by the architects who ensure that the new structures built in the city are harmonious with the preexisting Gothic, Baroque, and Renaissance style buildings. The modern urban development is spread along the Inn River to the east and west, away from the protected historic areas. The name Innsbruck is connected with its river, meaning "bridge over the Inn". Twice a host city of the Winter Olympics, Innsbruck is a great winter sports resort, attracting many skiers in winter as well as alpinists in summer. One can delight magnificent mountain ridges covered with snow, brightly coloured Alpine flowers and lovely animals in the beautiful area of Innsbruck.

Some of the major attractions in Innsbruck and its surroundings include: Swarovski Crystal Worlds (Kristallwelten), Tiroler museums, Hungersburg, Schloss Ambras, Wiltener Basilica, Bergisel, Hofburg, The Golden Roof, the Alpine Zoo and others.
