Lofer, a former market town 640 meters above the sea level and with 1800 inhabitants, is a picturesque resort surrounded by forest, mountains and rivers. It is located in the Saalach Valley and around it there are the Loferer and Reither Steinberge mountains. From there you can explore Land Salzburg as well as Salzburg itself, the Grossglockner alpine road, Krimml Falls, the dams at Kaprun, Kitzbühel, and Innsbruck and Lake Chiemsee and Berchtesgaden in Germany. Only an hour away you will find golf courses.
Lofer Skiing Holidays
As it is in the middle of the valley, Lofer offers a great deal of activities. During the winter there are very good ski areas with amazing views, really suitable for families. There is also a ski-school for visitors and lift facilities. You can take a chairlift to the Sonnegg-Loderbühel (1 003 meters above the sea level) or the Loferer Alm (1 403 meters). There are also numerous hiking paths among the fog-clear basin. For the children there are Punch & Judy shows, Kiddy Disco, torchlight walks, sled races and more activities.
During the summer you can hike, cycle or practice water sports. In 1998 there was a canoeing championship in Saalach. In the evenings you can taste some good food and drinks or simply walk through the traffic-free streets.
Lofer Spa Holidays
Lofer is also a famous spa and health resort, famous for its peat-water, mud baths and Kneipp cures. Other sport activities include tennis, skating, golfing and swimming.
You can visit the Bauerntheater (Peasant Theater) and the Pfarrkirche (Parish Church in gothic style). Behind the town can be seen the Loferer Steinberge and the Reiter Steinberge. The style of some of the houses resembles the one in Bavaria with their decorated oriels.
