Austria Ski Resorts Snow Levels And Skiing Conditions Reports. Austrian Glacier Resorts Offering Summer Skiing.

Although it is a sunny week across the Austrian resorts, cloudy skies are expected over the weekend. There is a chance of fresh snowfalls on the Stubai glacier at the end of this weekend. Stubai (250 cm) has fifty-two km of open pistes across thirteen runs and skiing and snowboarding is possible to the Middle Terminal Fernau. The deepest snow cover of the open ski resorts in Austria is at Hintertux (335 centimeters), where great spring skiing can be enjoyed. Kaprun (280 centimeters) also offers good skiing conditions, especially on their upper runs. Skiing is possible down to the Langwiedboden at the Kitzsteinhorn glacier (166 centimeters). The Molltal glacier is now closed for this ski season but it is ser to open for summer snow sports on 20th June. The Dachstein glacier will remain closed until the twentieth of May when it is scheduled to reopen for summer skiing and snowboarding.

The OMEGA Traunsee Week is one the most popular water sports events in Austria each year. The contest held on Traunsee Lake features around eight hundred rivals in different boat classes who take part in this famous national and international regatta.
The competitors battle it out in fifteen categories, struggling to become either European Champion, Europe Cup winner, Austrian Champion and Austrian Class Champion. Once on the dry land again, there are numerous of events carried out to keep the public entertained, such as themed parties, trade fairs, various shows and exhibitions. Donau Island Festival June 2008, Donauinsel
The festival takes place on the islands of the Donau River (or Danube) for three days in June. During that time the people from Vienna leave their beautiful city and go to these islands. The 19 islands of the festival provide 16 stages and are visited by more than 2 000 participants.
The festival was first carried out in 1984 and since then is has attracted lots of world-famous artists. During the festival you can witness many open air concerts and of course taste the food of the best chefs in the area. There are also many events especially for the children.

Bregenz Festival Tosca, Bodensee Floating stage, Bregenz - 23.07.2008-23.08.2008
After the great success of La Bohème in ‘01 and ‘02, another masterpiece by the Italian composer Giacomo Puccini, Tosca, welcomes visitors to the fest in 2007 and 2008 on the Floating Stage in Bregenz. Puccini's famous opera has deservedly become a classic of the stage. Tosca is engrossing for its great dramatic story of vehement love and shocking betrayal centering on three main characters. The opera makes huge demands of its performers in terms of both music and acting art skill. |
Carinthian Summer Festival, July, August 2008
The Carinthian Summer Festival is held every summer in the small towns of Ossiach and Villach in the Austrian Lake District. It lasts for more than a month and there one can hear some of the best classical musicians in the world. Some of the artists who have performed in the festival during the years include Leonard Bernstein, Montserrat Caballé, José Carreras and Christoph von Dohnányi. Although the festival is located in the open air, far from the concert halls in Vienna and Salzburg, it has a great atmosphere and is a magnificent event.
The main place where the festival is carried out is the Stiftskirche. The place was restored in the 1960s when the Carinthian Festival was officially founded with an amazing concert by the pianist Wilhlem Backhaus. Since then the event has won an international importance. |
The Arlberg Eagle, (various dates in April, July and August 2008), St Anton am Arlberg
Der Arlberg Adler (The Arlberg Eagle) is a triathlon, but it differentiate with this that it is held over 5 months. The event is very popular and there are only five hundred places available so one should register earlier! The exciting competition begins in April with "the white thrill" (der weisse Rausch), which is a 9 km ski race with a mass start at 2650 m. elevation on the Vallugagrat mount. Arlberger Jakobilauf - a half marathon takes place in July, after which the event culmination is a mountain biking marathon in carried out August.
