Salzburg Airport W.A. Mozart and Blue Danube Airport Linz are the closest airports to Gmunden - both about seventy kilometers away. Vienna International Airport and Munich Airport are about three hundred kilometers away.
Westbahn line Salzburg - Vienna via Attnang-Puchheim, connects trains to the Salzkammergutbahn and to the railway station Gmunden. Also one can arrive from Germany via Passau to Wels, changing train in direction Attnang/Puchheim, connecting trains to the Salzkammergutbahn and the railway station of Gmunden; or from Graz via Selzthal and Stainich Irdning to Gmunden.
A lovely way to explore the Traunsee and other towns on the Traunsee from the resort of Gmunden is to take the ferry that stops along the various towns on the shores of the lake. But however, note that this service is very limited in winter!
