Less than eight kilometers west of Krems is the loveliness of town Durnstein (Dürnstein). Situated along the Danube and accordingly, drawing throngs of tourist groups in summer. Fascinating terraced vineyards mark this as a Danube wine town, and the town's fortified walls although partially preserved are worth seeing.
